About Us

Dr. Jefferson R. Vaughan is the Medical Director of the Surgical Weight Control Program at Jupiter Medical Center. He started this program in 2001 with an extensive background in weight loss surgery.

We use a state of the art 3 Dimensional visualization technology to perform our Laparoscopic procedures, and our patients recuperate in our private Bariatric Unit on the surgical floor.

To date, Dr. Vaughan has performed over 700 Laparoscopic Gastric Bypasses, and has trained 36 surgical teams from around the world in his techniques.

Dr. Jefferson Vaughan, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a graduate of Birmingham Southern College and attended the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami, Florida.

Board Certified in General Surgery, Dr. Vaughan established a Bariatric Surgery Program at Yokosuka Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan in 1992 and continued until his return to the United States in 1994. While in Japan, he lectured extensively at Yokohama City University Hospital and Tokyo University Medical School on Bariatric Surgery, as well as advanced Laparoscopic surgical applications.

Dr. Vaughan was trained in the Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass technique under Dr. Alan Wittgrove, in San Diego, California, where Carnie Wilson’s surgery was performed. He is a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.

He is proficient in both open incision and Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery and Adjustable Lap-Band® Surgery. He has been on the surgical staff at Jupiter Medical Center since 1995.

Dr. Vaughan serves as a physician consultant to several multi-national corporations such as Ethicon Endosurgery, Vista Medical Technologies, IMET, Inc, and Leptos Biomedical.
